Ekiti State Governor, and Chairman Nigeria Governor’s Forum, Dr Kayode Fayemi has thrown his weight behind the implementation of financial autonomy for state legislatures across the country.
The Governor stated this when the Chairman of the Conference of Speakers and Speaker Bauchi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Abubakar Sulaiman led other representatives of the Conference on a courtesy visit to the Governor in Ado Ekiti.
Dr Fayemi said that when the relationship between the executive and the legislature arms of government are cordial, it would further deepen democracy and enhance good governace which governors of the thirty six states of the federation are in support
He maintained that there was no division within the ranks of the Governors on the implementation of the financial autonomy for legislatures.
He added that there was the need for adequate discussion of the governors stand on certain area of the executive order of financial autonomy for State legislatures to reflect peculiarities of each states of the country.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Conference, Alhaji Sulaiman had sought for the intervention of the Governor on the ongoing strike embarked upon by by the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria.
The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria had on March 23 embarked on indefinite strike calling for the implementation of the financial automony, as signed to law by President Muhammad Buhari.
