The Wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi has visited some Tertiary Institutions in the State with a view to adopting zero tolerance approach to all forms of Gender Based Violence in the institutions.
Erelu Fayemi who made the call during an advocacy visit of the GBV’s Management Committee to the institutions said that all hands must be on deck to ensure that women and girls’ rights were protected in the state.
Erelu Fayemi and other GBV’s Management Team visited the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti and the Crown Polytechnic Odo, Ado-Ekiti.
The GBV’s Management team was warmly received by the Management Team of each of the Institutions visited.
Erelu Fayemi while addressing the gathering at the institutions said that violence against women and children brings educational opportunities to a halt and destroys lives.
According to the Governor’s Wife women who are victims of violent sexual crimes are afraid to report for fear of
stigmatization, blame and rejection.
Erelu Fayemi appealed to the institutions’ leaderships as well as the students to acquaint themselves of the provisions of the 2019 State’s GBV Law and encouraged security personnel to take GBV’s issues seriously.
Responding, the Vice Chancellor of the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Professor Victor Adeoluwa and the Rector Crown Polytechnic, Mr Kolawole Ajisola assured the Governor’s Wife of their readiness to support her drive in ending Gender Based Violence.
The Chairman Governing Council of the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Chief Afolabi Ojuawo described the Governor’s wife as a gift to the state calling on her to be relentless in ensuring women and children were protected from violence.
