Governor Fayemi charges old students to give back to alma-mater as he receives award of excellence.

The Ekiti state Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has advocated the need for old students to give back to the school that produced them in other to ensure continuity of development.

He gave the advice at Christ’s School, Ado Ekiti during the inauguration of the renovated Archive/Museum building constructed by the 1967/71 Set, in commemoration of their 50th anniversary of their graduation from the school.

The governor commended the set for the laudable project meant to elevate the standard of the school, particularly, fixing a project that would bind all students together.

He submitted that the return of schools to their original owners recently by his administration was yielding positive results, adding that the development had engendered healthy rivalry among various sets of old students desirous of making impacts in the schools that produced them.

Dr Fayemi assured the gathering that he would rally support for the completion of the second phase of the project.

He also emphasized the need for the old students to ensure that their children enrol in the school to ensure a continued connectivity of the school with their families.

Dr Fayemi charged both old and current students of the school to maintain the tradition of excellence and discipline that Christ’s School was known for.

“And now that we have returned the school back to its original owners, the way old students are really competing healthily to pull back to the school is something I found most remarkable and my set is also involved in the competition as we have tarred the two roads both in the boys and girls sections and I think the set after us did the old sick bay and now you are doing this. If we all pull back little by little, we would not only rekindle what this place used to be, we would have a brand new school we would be proud to send our children back to”.

“One thing binds us, it is the tradition that this school has, that is all we all are inbuild with, the tradition of excellence, tradition of God-fearing and the tradition of discipline in everything that we did while we were here and that is why you have not forgotten you connection to Christ School”.
“So, what you are doing is worthy of emulation, I am sure other sets will hear about it and they would find a way to put back to the school. I mean we must consider the current principal of the school to be particularly lucky to be experiencing this rebirth, this renewal of Christ School as it used to be.”

The governor and Prof Niyi Osundare were thereafter honoured for their exemplary leadership and contributions to the education sector.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Dr Charles Akinola, noted that the building was the heartbeat of Christ School as the archive was modelled to preserve, re-enact and showcase the rich history of the school.

He assured the governor that immediately after the commissioning, the Union set would kick start the second phase of the project, which would include equipping the archive with archival materials, construction of the quadrangle complex and the adjoining classrooms.

He called on all the Alumni members to continue to support the school to enable it achieve all its lofty ideas in a conducive and technologically friendly environment.
