One thousand four hundred and fifteen students, out of which one hundred and twenty five have First Class, have been penciled down for graduation in the 9th Convocation of the Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti.
Addressing a Press Conference on the activities lined up for the graduation ceremony which will also coincide with the 12th Anniversary of the establishment of the institution, the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Smranda Olarinde, said the number of graduates for this year’s convocation translated to over 100 percent growth rate in 9 years.
She said five hundred and sixty three students graduated in the second class upper division, four hundred and seventy three Second Class Lower Division, while sixty would be going home with third class.
She said “Tomorrow, Tuesday, November 16, the Computer Science Graduating students will be having their Induction and Oath taking ceremony to be conducted by the Computer Professional (Registration Council of Nigeria) (CPN). This will be followad later in the evening by excting Sporting Activities at the ABUAD Sports Complex”.
“On Wednesday, November 17, the 6th set of our Engineering Graduating Students will have their Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) Induction/Oath-taking Ceremony at Owolabi Hall”.
“It will be the turn of the Alumni Association of ABUAD to induct the new Graduating Students as members on Thursday, November 18 at Owolabi Hall”.
“On Friday, November 19, we will have the Investiture of our Law Students as Associate Members of our prestigious Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators at Owolabi Hall”
The Acting Vice Chancellor added that four projects, including Clinical laboratory, Pharmacy complex, ICT complex and Suleiman Bogoro Center, recently embarked upon by the institution, would be inaugurated.
On awards, Prof. Smaranda said three monarchs, the Oni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, as well as the governor of Borno state, Prof. Babagana Zulum, would be conferred with Honorary Doctorate Degrees at the occasion.
