Residents of Ado Ekiti have decried the high transport fare being charged by Okada riders within the metropolis.
Those who spoke to BSES explained that the riders were charging between 150 and 200 naira for a distance of less than a kilometer.
They said they were not unmindful that the increase in pump price of petrol and high cost of motorcycle spare parts might have been responsible for the development, but appealed to them to the lean purse of the majority.
One of the respondents, Mr Adebayo Oluwole, who is a Civil Servant, said he spent about one thousand naira daily on transportation to and fro his office rather than the five hundred he used to spend.
According to him, from his residence in Embassy to the State secretariat, commercial motorcyclists always charge close to six hundred.
A business owner in bank road, who residing at the back of INEC office in Ado, Mr Tunji Tewogbola, expressed dismay over what he tagged “Exploitation”.
He appealed to relevant stakeholders to prevail on the riders to regulate their fare rather than allowing them to milk their customers dry.
The duo also suggested that taxis should be made to ply other major roads in the state capital rather than sticking to the traditional routes.
