By Tunji Saliu

The Ekiti State government has directed traders selling fowls at Oja Oba and Atikankan area of Ado Ekiti to relocate to Shasha BAO at Agric Olope market at Odo Ado.

The directive was to ensure sanity and reduce traffic congestion in the area during the festive period as a lot of Christmas Shoppers would want buy chicken.

In ensuring compliance, the Commissioner for Trade, Industry and Investment, Mrs Tayo Adeola and the Director General, Community Communication, Mrs Mary Oso-Omotoso, were at the market to sensitise the traders on the new development.

The government officials engaged the chicken marketers at the OJa Oba and Atikankan area of the State capital on the need for them to relocate to the newly upgraded Agric Olope market.

The commissioner for industry, trade, and investment, Mrs. Tayo Adéolá, flanked by the Director General, Community Communications, Mary Osho-Omotoso, sensitized them on the hazards of trading their live chickens by the roadside.

The commissioner explained that Governor Oyebanji wanted them to make good sales during the festive period, and devoid of hazard, hence the need for the provision of a suitable environment for them to thrive.

She urged the seasonal chicken sellers to make use of the facilities therein, such as electricity, water, fire service, and a good road network, provided by the state government at the new market.

Also, the DG Community Communications frowned at the rate at which traders at the Bisi market and Oja Oba dumped refuse indiscriminately on the road medians in the state capital.

She noted that the government would ensure all shop owners at the market get waste bins for a scheduled collection by the waste management officials.

The duo called for further support for the State Government.
