…Says It’s Premature, Inappropriate.
The Minority Leader, of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr Oladele Ogunsakin and the lawmaker representing Ise-Orun constituency, Mr Babatunde Omotayo have distanced themselves from the purported declaration of an Aspirant under the Social Democratic Party, Dr Babatunde Olugola, for the 2026 governorship election in the state.
In a statement, jointly signed by the lawmakers, the duo explained that, it was inappropriate for Dr Olugola to declare for governorship seat prematurely.
They commended governor Biodun Oyebanji’s giant strides, which they said was feasible in all the facet of the state’s economy, urging trouble makers to stay away from the State.
A report had gone viral on social media where Dr Olugola claimed to be vying for the governorship seat of the state.
The lawmakers carpeted Dr Olugola for violating the Electoral Act which regulates political activities in the country.
The two SDP House of Assembly members expressed shock on the purported declaration without any consultation or discussion with the leadership of the party.
Similarly, the Dr Dele Ekunola led executive and leaders of the party dissociated themselves from the development, describing it as an affront to the nation’s constitution.
The party chairman Dr Ekunola stated that members of the public should disregard the declaration, saying that such an action would have been appropriate, if it was a collective decision of the executive members and leaders.
He said Dr Olugola goofed by the decision as he could not have declared without following the INEC guidelines.
The party Executive noted that it was too early to start causing upheaval, moreso that the state currently enjoys political stability.
