Over seventy million naira has been given out as reward for Excellence, Entrepreneurship and Leadership to the students of Afe Babalola University in the year 2021.
The founder of the institution, Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, gave the information at the convocation ceremony of one thousand four hundred and fifteen graduates of various colleges of the University held at the campus main auditorium.
Out of the number, one hundred and twenty five students graduated with First Class.
Aare Babalola, who congratulated the students on the feat, said the institution had been encouraging brilliance and talented students, adding that over six hundred million naira had so far been expended by the institution in the last ten years as reward for excellence.
The founder used the occasion to call on the Nigeria Universities Commission to clamp down on illegal Universities in the country to rescue the education sector from total collapse.
In his remarks, the Ekiti state Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, commended Aare Babalola for establishing the University in Ekiti state, pledging Government’s continuous support to the institution.
He also advised the founder to institute measures that would ensure the longevity of the Institution.
Earlier, the Vice chancellor of the university, Prof Smranda Olarinde, and the Pro chancellor, Prof Tunde Adeniran, charged the students to be good ambassadors of the institution.
The occasion also featured the decoration of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ewi of Ado, Oba Rufus Adejugbe, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Sulu Gabamri and the governor of Borno state, Professor Babagana Zulum, with Honorary Doctorate Degrees of the institution.
Responding on behalf of the graduating students, the overall best graduate thanked ABUAD for impacting knowledge and character in them.
