ABUAD seeks NAFDAC approval for Covid-19 Herbal Medicine

The Management of the Afe Babalola University Ado Ekiti, ABUAD has sought the approval of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC for a Covid-19 Herbal Medicine viruscidine produced by the Institution.

The University’s Authority made the position known while receiving NAFDAC delegation led by its Director General, Mrs Mojisola Adeyeye on the campus in Ado Ekiti.

Briefing the NAFDAC delegation on the research made on plants before the discovery of the medicine, a plant researcher, Dr Olaposi Omotuyi said that the team worked day and night to ensure the potency of the herbal medicine.

He acknowledged the support of the Founder of ABUAD, Aare Afe Babalola in providing the wherewithal to ensure the success of the research team.

“We made research on a lot of plant, before we arrived at the point we are now, I want to commend Baba Aare Afe Babalola for his support to our team, whenever we need his help, he is always there for us.

The University’s Pharmacist, Mrs Afolabi said that the herbal medicine had gone through the necessary test and had been certified, calling of NAFDAC to acceed to the request of ABUAD.

Responding, the NAFDAC DG, Mrs Adeyeye said that the Agency had provided a level playing ground for all herbal medicine producers, acknowledging that ABUAD had taken the best scientific approach.

Aare Babalola in his comment said that, his University was not only establish to teach but also for research, adding that the interest in research has resulted to the success, especially in drug that would give people immunity against Covid-19.

If given approval, the University would be the first to produce herbal medicine that would give people immunity against Covid-19.
