The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Ekiti State University Chapter says the pronouncement by the Governing Board of the University proscribing unions in the school is an abuse of power which cannot stand.
The Governing Council of the University, had recently announced the immediate closure of the University and proscribed all four unions, ASUU, SSANU, NAAT and NASU in the campus.
The Council said that the action is as a result of the continuous disruption of lawful activities on campus following many days of protest by the workers over unpaid salaries.
Speaking with Journalists via telephone, the Chairman ASUU, EKSU Chapter, Dr Kayode Arogundade said that the board and the Management were only trying to buy time.
He said the union would not relent in the struggle to fight for the benefit of its members.
Also, the Chairman of SSANU in the Ekiti State University, Comrade Adedayo Aguda said that the Council lacked the power to proscribe the Union, saying SSANU and ASUU were not student unions.
Mr Aguda said that the union would be relentless in the course of fighting for the welfare of its members.
