Block Revenue leakages in 2023…Oyebanji tasks MDAs

The Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has advocated the use of technological means to boost the state revenue and avoid leakages.

The Governor made gave the indication, during a meeting with the Chairman of Internal Revenue Service and Heads of Revenue generating Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as well as State Institutions in his office in Ado Ekiti.

Governor Oyebanji who stressed the importance of generating revenue into the coffer of government through digital technology, charged the revenue generating components to improve on their efforts and ensure increase in revenue.

According to him, the new approach would enable government achieve its desired goals of delivering dividends of democracy to the people.

Mr Oyebanji who called for more efforts at boosting the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) without placing extra burden on the people, assured the Internal Revenue Service of adequate government support to enable it deliver on revenue drive.

The Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Mr Akintunde Oyebode, stressed the need for the state to improve on its 7th lowest ranking in internally generated revenue among the 36 states of the Federation by strengthening the capacity of the Internal Revenue Service to improve on the states revenue drive.

The Chairman, Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service, Mr Rufus Olatona informed the gathering that some people were impersonating officials of the service thereby impeding the effective performance of the state revenue service.

He said investigation had begun and assured the Governor that culprits would be brought to book.

The meeting had in attendance, the Deputy Governor, SSG, Head of Service and other members of the State Executive Council.
