BSES NUJ commences construction of Union Building

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State chapel, has commenced the construction of its permanent building at the headquarters of the station in Ilokun Ado Ekiti.

The chairman of the union, in the chapel, Mr Kelechi David said the move was to actualize the vision of the founding fathers of the union at the chapel level..

“The struggle to have a befitting NUJ Building was conceived about two decades ago when a plot of land was secured by the then leadership of the Union. Meanwhile, the tenure of Comrade Akinwale Olaoye, now the Director News and Current Affairs was able to get some loads of sound and gravel. To God be the glory, their dream is being actualized today with this ground-breaking.

One of the promises I made while seeking your mandate to govern the Union at this level was to ensure that we have a befitting building for BSES NUJ.

Our distinguished guests, Ladies and gentlemen, let me use this opportunity to intimate you with the details of this structure we want to put in place. It is going to be a structure that will accommodate offices for the Union’s Chairman and Secretary, a Library for the Union, Conference Hall and Bar, self-contained rooms of about six for the use of staff and corps members posted to the station after closing hours.”

The state NUJ chairman, Mr Rotimi Ojomoyela congratulated the BSES executive on the feat and intimated the gathering on the successes recorded under his administration.

The General Manager of the BSES commended the NUJ BSES for coming up with the initiative, saying it would be a rallying point for members to brainstorm on how to chart a way forward for the journalism profession.
