Residents of Toluwani community, opposite BAWA Estate, in Ado Ekiti, have appealed to the State Government to prevail on the developers building two bungalows beside the Estate to open the water channel that was blocked when they commenced work at the site.
The call was made following the overflow of the stream during a rainfall, leading to flood taking over the premises of the houses in the area.
The developers were accused of deliberately blocking the water channel for selfish reasons, and that their action had been threatening the entire area since the start of the rainy season.
They explained that rainwater had always been taking over the community, thereby weakening their buildings and also blocking their access.
The residents said that several pleas by the community to make the developers open the water channel had proven abortive, calling on the appropriate government agency to intervene.
They expressed the fear that flood could sack them from their houses if no concrete measure was taken to correct the anomaly.
The community, which spoke through the Chairman of the Landlords Association, Mr Sunday Aderibigbe, commended Governor Biodun Oyebanji for responding to the yearnings of the people, but pleaded that his administration should pay attention to the activities of developers who always jettisoned the laid down procedures.
