The wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Dr Olayemi Abiodun-Oyebanji, has again sounded a note of warning to perpetrators of gender abuse in the state, saying that government would clampdown on anyone caught
Dr Abiodun-Oyebanji reawakened members of the public on the laws put in place to forestall gender violence during a road walk to commemorate 16 days of activism against gender based violence.
The road walk took the wife of the governor and others through Fajuyi, Okesha, post office, Okeyinmi and Ojumose areas of Ado Ekiti.
Those who joined the governor’s wife on the walk were Non governmental organizations, National Youth Service Corps members, Federation of Women Lawyers and Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, among others.
During the walk, the wife of the governor stopped at strategic junctions to enlighten the public on the right of the girl child, and women.
She explained that perpetrators of any illicit act should be ready to bear the brunt as the current administration would back the implementation of GBV laws with political will.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Olusola Adeluyi, explained that the awareness became necessary to further resuscitate the activism against gender based violence in the minds of the public.
The awareness walk was described by members of the public as appropriate and timely.
