Ekiti ALGON empowers 500 youths on tie and dye

……as Ado North LCDA Chairman Gbadamosi urges beneficiaries to be productive .

A total of 500 youths, mostly women, drawn from across Ekiti State, have graduated from Adire hub training centre, a local fabrics empowerment scheme established by Wife of the State Governor, Dr Olayemi Abiodun-Oyebanji.

The graduands were sponsored by members of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Ekiti State Chapter.

At the event were, the Wife of the state Governor, Dr Olayemi Abiodun-Oyebanji, the Deputy Governor Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, Commissioner for Local Government Chief Folorunsho Olabode, ALGON Chairman, Hon. Olusegun Ojo and Local Government Chairmen among others.

Speaking with journalists at the graduation ceremony, the Chairman of Ado North Local Council Development Area Hon. Olatokunbo Gbadamosi, applauded the Governor’s Wife for establishing the centre.

She said that, the “Adire Ekiti Initiative”, was a good concept that would provide sustainable livelihoods, promote entrepreneurship, create opportunities for economic empowerment and preservation of cultural heritage in the state.

“The adire hub is the first of its kind here in Ekiti and even Nigeria as a whole and we are grateful to Her Excellency for championing this great initiative”.

Hon. Gbadamosi, charged the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity offered by the Adire Ekiti scheme which include self sustenance, productivity and becoming job creators rather than job seekers.

The beneficiaries who were empowered financially, by ALGON members at the ceremony had undergone two weeks intensive training on the intricacies of “tie and dye” at the training facility, “Adire Hub”, a novel initiative of the Wife of the Governor, and the first of its kind, in the entire African continent, was commissioned by Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, early this year.
