Ekiti Assembly moves to establish legislative training center, passes seven bills

The Ekiti House of Assembly has committed the bill for the establishment of legislative training centre to it joint House Committees on Public Service Matters and Establishment, Committee on Judiciary and Legal Matters and Committee on Education Science and Technology for further legislative scrutiny.

The bill is tittled,” A Bill for a Law to Provide for the Establishment of Ekiti House of Assembly Centre for Democracy and Legislative Studies and Other Matters Connected Thereto, 2022.

The speaker Mr Funminiyi Afuye, directed that the concerned committees should do their jobs and report to the House in one week.

Contributors, who included Mr Goke Olajide, Femi Akindele, and Stephen Aribasoye, APC , said the importance of training and retraining can not be overemphasised.

They called for it speedy passage, in line with the view of the Majority Leader, Chief Gboyega Aribisogan, who said the bill was aimed at ensuring effective service delivery through training and retraining.

The House also unanimously adopted the report of the bill on Open Defecation Free Bill, 2022, following it submission by the House Joint Committees on Public Utilities and Infrastructure and Committee on Environment, Chaired, Mr Micheal Arubu.

The chairman of the house committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Yemisi Ayokunle submitted the report on a Bill for a Law to grant Government supports for Indigent Families with Multiple Births through the Establishment of a Multiple Births Trust Fund,2022.

Similarly, the Committee on Environment headed by Mr Tunde Idowu submitted it report on a Bill to establish the Ekiti Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency to control and regulate the erection and installation of Masts and Towers and for connected purposes.

The Infrastructure maintenance and Regulatory Agency bill was sponsored by the lawmaker representing Moba constituency one, Hon. Ajibade Raphael Adeyemi.

Moreso, the Chairman of House Committee on Works and Transportation Mr Hakeem Jamiu submitted the reports of his Joint Committee with Committee on Due Process and SDGs, Committee on Investment, Trade and Industries.

The reports were, a Bill for a Law to provide for Local Content in Bidding of Contracts and Other Related Matters,2022 and a Bill for a Law to provide for Registration and Regulation of Activities of Motor Vehicle and Motor Spare Parts Dealers within the State and other Matters Connected Therewith,2022, which were subsequently adopted by members of the Assembly.

The rest reports adopted at the plenary were, report on a Bill to Impose Tax on Goods and Services Consumed in Hotels, Restaurants and Event Centres on Ekiti and Other Matters Incidental thereto or Connected Therewith and Ekiti Listed Site (Preservation) Bill, 2022.

The reports were submitted by the committees’ Chairmen, on Trades and Investment and Culture and Tourism, Mr Yemi Osatuyi and Mr Johnson Bode-Adeoye,

The bills were thereafter passed by the house
