The Ekiti State House of Assembly has summoned the officials in charge of sports in the state over the recent embarrassment caused by the shabby outfits worn by Ekiti athletes during the opening ceremony parade of the ongoing Asaba Sports Festival.
In a statement by the House Spokesperson and Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Hon. Babatunde Oke, while condemning the embarrassment caused by the attires of the state athletes at the Asaba sports festival in strong terms, called on the officials overseeing sports affairs in Ekiti to appear before the House Committee on Youth and Sport on Tuesday 26th September, 2023 at 2:00p.m.
The statement further stated that the summon became necessary to unravel the circumstances that led to the athlete’s poor outfit.
While noting that Ekiti Assembly acknowledges the importance of outing at positioning the positive image of the State on sports, expressed that the embarrassing attire of the state athletes at the said event does not reflect the values and standards the State upholds.
The House, therefore, called on the officials concerned to appear before its Committee as a proactive measures to salvage future occurrence of the situation.
It will be recalled, the Ekiti State House of Assembly in its bid to promote and enhance sporting activities in Ekiti, recently passed the Ekiti State Sports Commission bill into law.
