Ekiti Government promises support for victims of fire disaster

The Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Okinlua Monisade Afuye, has comiserated with the victims of Shasha Market fire incident in Ikere and assured them of government’s support.

The Deputy Governor gave the assurance while on a sympathy visit to the market.

The market was razed by fire ire at the weekend, destroyed goods worth millions of naira.

Some shops and a cold room were razed in the inferno that raged for about two hours, despite the efforts of volunteers who tried to put it out.

Okinlua Afuye, while addressing the traders, said that she received the news of the fire disaster with shock and thanked God that no life was lost to the incident.

She urged traders to always take proactive measures to avert such incident which she said was prevalent during the dry season.

Okinlua Afuye promised that the government would interogate the cause of the incident, while those affected would be supported so that they could recover from the loss incurred.

The Deputy Governor assured the traders that the government would also look into the road linking the market and that some social amenities would be provided to ensure their comfort.

The Chairman of the Market Committee, Alhaji Musa Abdulhameed, while narrating their ordeal, said that the inferno was linked to an electric spark from a generating set and appealed for government intervention for the victims.

Also the Iyaloja of Shasha Market, Mrs Feyisayo Ayajo, made a passionate appeal to the government to establish a Fire Service Station in the market to combat such occurrences.

On the entourage of the Deputy Governor were the the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Abibat Adubiaro, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, Mr Yinka Oyebode, his counterpart on investment, trade and industry, Mrs Omotayo Adeola, among others.
