The hope of workers to get their gratuities as and when due is gradually becoming a reality as Ekiti State Government settled the gratuities of some retired workers who keyed into the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
Presenting the first batch of the retirement benefit payment documents to the Retirees, Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, said his administration would continue to accord priority to the welfare of retirees.
Presenting the documents for immediate payment to the beneficiaries,Governor Fayemi, through his Deputy, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, said that the event was in realization of the gains in the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) for public servants who retired in 2021 and 2022.
He described the Contributory Pension Scheme initiated by his government during his first term as a project achieved having realized the problems of accumulated arrears of unpaid gratuities under the Old Define Benefits Scheme(DBS).
Governor Fayemi, while congratulating the 30 beneficiaries for receiving their pensions and Gratuities at once, urged them to utilize the funds to sustain themselves.
The Permanent Secretary of the State Pension Commission, Mr Afolabi Adebiyi, said the payment was made possible through the transparency and commitment of the current administration to the wellbeing of the beneficiaries.
Mr Adebiyi said the vision of the State government had come to a reality.
There were goodwill messages from the State Head of Service, Mr Bamidele Agbede, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Ekiti State, Elder Joel Akinola, representative of Chairman of PENCOM, Mr Idiowo.
The beneficiaries of the first batch payment thanked the State Government for settling their entitlements.
