The Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has expressed the resolve of his administration to strengthening the collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission UBEC in providing conducive atmosphere that would enhance academic excellence in the state.
Dr Fayemi, who made affirmation when he played host to the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Dr Hamid Bobboyi, in Ado, said that his administration had demonstrated it’s seriousness for excellenct academic activities in the state.
The governor, who described Basic Education as key foundation which must be priorotised, added that Government had ensured that quality education was not restricted to the privileged members of the society.
He submitted that within the last three years, his administration had ensured tremendous increase in enrollment in both primary and secondary schools.
Fayemi added that his administration was passionate about e-learning, adding that government would equip schools with ICT facilitates to further enhance teaching and learning.
He noted that on assumption office, his administration cleared over eight billion naira backlog UBEC counterpart funds.
The governor explained that the development enabled the state access funds to accelerate the implementation of UBEC and, as well, to build the capacity of teachers for efficient service delivery.
Earlier, in his remarks, the UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr Bobboyi, said that the development of Basic Education was a collective responsibility of the Federal, State and Local Government, adding that he was in the state to access various UBEC projects and also explore areas of collaboration for the development of Primary Education.
He Commended the state government for the prompt payment of it’s counterpart funds.
