The Managing Director of the Ekiti State Water and Sewerage Company Limited, Mr Wole Afolabi says plans are underway to construct sanitation and sewages facilities in Market places in the state with a view to curb open defecation.
Mr Afolabi gave the information in an interview with Journalists after a final validation of the report of a consultant on urban water and Sanitation master plan for Ekiti State, held in Ado Ekiti.
The validation was jointly done by the management of water and sewage company and stakeholders.
Mr Afolabi said the report would assist the state government and company plan on how to make water available for people of the state for the next 30 years and also put an end to open defecation.
He said the report recommended that a minimum of twenty two million US dollar should be spent on water and Sanitation sector every year.
Also commenting the state commissioner for public utilities and infrastructure, Prof Mobalaji Aluko, said the report will assist the state have a first hand information on challenges facing the sector.
He urged the people of the state to desist from water theft and report water leakage in their area.
