Ekiti State Government has set up a team to liaise with the State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners with a view offset their age-long gratuities.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji made the announcement while playing host to the Administrative Committee of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners in his office in Ado Ekiti.
The team to meet with PENSIONERS representatives as announced by the Governor include: the Commissioner for Finance who is the Chairman, Head of Service, Special Adviser on Trade and Investment, Special Adviser Budget and Economic development and Executive Secretary, PTDA.
Governor Oyebanji who said he was passionate about the wellbeing of retired civil servants adding that the team would work out modalities to defray the gratuities beginning with the implementation as from next year’s January.
Mr Oyebanji told them to let go the past experience to offset the gratuities, asking them to keep faith in his government on the promises made.
He expressed his government’s stand to release the deductions and check up dues month.
Earlier,.the State Chairman, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Mr Akinola and National Vice Chairman of NUP, Elder Joel Ikumapayi thanked the Governor for placing high premium on their welfare citing the recent release of their August, September and October check up dues.
They called on government to ensure orderliness in the payment of gratuities to members both in the local and state, while also asking for an executive order to direct all state health institutions to give adequate medical treatments to PENSIONERS at subsized costs.
