Traditional rulers in Oye Local Government Area have pleaded to the State Government to beep up adequate security in all the nooks and crannies of the Council, while the cave and forest in the axis be combed.
The Obas made the plea during a visit to the Government House in Ado Ekiti.
The Obas also asked for the provision of both land and air surveillance in the identifitied areas.
The Traditional Rulers led by their Chairman in Oye Local Government Area, the Onitaji of Itaji-Ekiti, Oba Adamo Babalola expressed dismay over the spate of insecurity in the State and other parts of the country, which led to the abduction of one of them, the Obadu of Ilemeso Ekiti, Oba David Oyewumi last week Thursday.
Oba Babalola whose words were corroborated by the Alafon, Oba Akin Owoeye, Onisan, Oba Gabriel Adejuwon and Oloye, Oba Oluwole Ademolaju and Chairman of Oye Local Government Council, Mr Foluso Ojo observed that palaces had been a scared place of protection from time immemorial unlike today.
According to them, the security apparatus was weakened, as the outfits were incapacitated with facilities to work with and stressed the need why they should be given adequate protection to avoid a future occurrence.
While saying that the State Government was trying in its bid to ensure adequate protection of lives and property, the Obas sought Government’s assistance to ensure more Security presence in the communities.
The State Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi in his response lamented that the spate of insecurity pervading the country and stressed the need to fortify all the communities with appropriate impetus.
Otunba Egbeyemi described the recent kidnap of an Oba in the area as uncalled for.
Identifying, farms, roads and reserve forests as regular spots of kidnappers, the Deputy Governor said that the State Government would not rest in beefing up more security in all parts of the State.
He also called on residents to always report strange faces and their movements to the Traditional Heads, Government and Security Agencies.
