The Ekiti State Police Command on Wednesday arraigned one Yusuf Tanimola, 58 on two-count charges before the Magistrate Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti over an alleged theft of cassava plantations worth N1,000,000.
In the first count charge, Tanimola was alleged to have forcibly entered the farm of the Academic staff Union of Secondary School (ASUSS) chaired by Sola Adigun – an offence punishable under Section 65 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021.
In the second charge, Tanimola was accused to have also stole cassava plantations worth N1,000,000- an offence punishable under Section 302 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021, all of which he pleaded not guilty to.
The charge sheet tagged: MAD/113C/2025 reads, “That you, Yusuf Ibrahim Tanimola ‘m’ (age 58) on 26/01/2025 at about 0800 at Idemo street, Ado-Ekiti in the Ado-Ekiti Magisterial District, forcibly entered the farm of the Academic staff Union of Secondary School (ASUSS) chaired by one Sola Adigun ‘m’ and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 65 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021
“That you, Yusuf Ibrahim Tanimola ‘m’ on the same date, time, and location, stole cassava plantations valued at one million naira (N1,000.000), property of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary School (ASUSS) chaired by Comrade Sola Adigun ‘m’, and thereby committed an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 302 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021”.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Adewale Oriyomi said his client has six witnesses but urged the court to adjourn the case for further investigation and hearing.
On the contrary, the defence counsel, Opeyemi Esan argued and prayed the court to grant his client bail and promised that the suspect would be available whenever he is being called upon.
In his ruling, the presiding magistrate, Abayomi Adeosun granted Tamimola N100,000 bail with 2 surety in like sum while the case is adjourned to 7th March, 2025 for further hearing.
