There was panic among residents of Iyin and Igede Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State on Thursday over report that some kidnappers are in the towns to perpetrate evil.
BSES gathered that parents were seen going to schools to pick their children even before the closing hour.
The situation led to confusion and apprehension among the residents especially parents as they were seen running helter-skelter to get their wards.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ekiti State Command, Mr Sunday Abutu said that there was no kidnapping at Iyin and Igede-Ekiti, emphasizing that it was a mere rumor.
Mr Abutu said that police personnel have been mobilized to the area to forestall such occurrence.
He called on the public to disregard the rumor and go about their lawful businesses, adding that they should not hesitate to inform the security agencies when noticed suspicious movement in their domains.
