Erelu Fayemi offers advice to young girls on mestrual hygiene practices

The Wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi has launched the Keep Girls in School PAD BANK with a view to breaking the silence on menstrual issues among school Girls in the State.

Erelu Fayemi while speaking at the event held in Ado-Ekiti said that the programme would inturn promote menstrual hygiene among young girls.

The programme organised to commemorate this year’s World Menstrual Hygiene Day had top Government functionaries, School Children among others in attendance.

Erelu Fayemi told the gathering that the programme was aimed at addressing harmful traditional practices as well contribute towards creating a toxic environment for girls to grow up and be educated.

The Governor’s Wife said that the goal of menstrual hygiene Management was to ensure that women and girls could manage their period in a way that is healthy.

She explained that the programme would provide opportunities for young local entrepreneurs to learn how to produce reusable and safe sanitary pads.

In his remarks, Governor Kayode Fayemi represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Biodun Oyebanji promised to institutionalised the programme in the next year’s Budget.

There were goodwill messages from the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr Akeem Jamiu, Head of Service, Mrs Peju Babafemi as well as some members of the State Executive Council.

They all lauded the Wife of the Governor for the initiative and urged her to be relentless.

Earlier, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor’s Wife on Public Affairs and Advocacy, Mrs Tokunbo Gbadamosi assured of regular provision of the sanitary pads to young girls in the State.

One of the beneficiaries, Miss Ezeruo Precious thanked the Governor’s wife for the initiative.
