The Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, RMAFC, Elias Mbam has announced that a review of the remuneration of political and judiciary officeholders will soon commence.
The chairman gave the information on Saturday at the Ofala Festival in the Amagu community, Ikwo LGA Ebonyi.
The event was also the 30th anniversary of the coronation of Ezeogo Aloh, Erima-Ogwudu III of Amagu kingdom.
The RMAFC boss was conferred with a chieftaincy title of ‘Aka Ekpuchi Onwa II’ by the traditional ruler.
Speaking with Journalists at the event, the Chairman said that by the end of the year, there would be tangible developments.
Mbam added that a public hearing would also be held for Nigerians to contribute to the process.
He said that one of the major responsibilities of our commission is to determine remunerations appropriate for political and judicial officeholders emphasizing that in doing that, the financial situation of the country, at any given time, would be taken into consideration, including inflation and the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), among others.
“The commission, being conscious that a lot has happened since the last review, has commenced the process of another review to reflect the changing realities”, he said.
Mbam refused to discuss specifics on whether the remuneration would lead to a decrease or an increase in the salary figures, rather asserting that the process would decide it.
The Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige, has said that there has been no review of the salaries of political office holders since 2011.
