Fuel Scarcity: Oyebanji to shut down filling station hoarding fuel

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has directed all filling stations in the state to start dispensing Petrol with immediate effect as erring fuel stations would be shut down.

At a meeting with the fuel Marketers in his office in Ado, said he would not fold his hands and allow fuel Marketers to inflict pain on Ekiti citizens.

The meeting which had in attendance the Commissioner of Police, Director of State Services, Special Adviser, Internal Security, and labor leaders. became expedient following the decision of the independent marketers to shut down their filling stations sequel to the inaugural speech of President Bola Tinubu on the decision of the Government to end the Fuel subsidy.

Governor Oyebanji frowned at the decision of the fuel Marketers to shut down their filling stations, saying the step was to inflict pain on the citizens of the state.

Mr. Oyebanji observed that the marketers misinterpreted the subsidy removal without waiting for details from the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and NNPC.

He appealed to them not to only think of their capitals but to make life easier for the common man.

The Governor who said there is no going back on the directive, called on the Security Operatives and State Taskforce to go out from Wednesday to sanction erring marketers.

Saying his administration is poised to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive in the state, the Governor said he has directed that taxes related to business traders be unified.

The Chairman of, the Petroleum Taskforce, Mr. Deji Adesokan explained that fuel prices had skyrocketed immediately after the inauguration of the new President.

The fuel Marketers who said the artificial scarcity was a result of the non-lifting of pms from the depot in the past days, expressed their readiness to start selling the products at a tolerance rate.
