A block of five classroom constructed at Oniwe Comprehensive High School, Ilawe Ekiti, facilitated by an indigene, Major General Adeyemi Adetayo has been inaugurated.
The Chief of Army Staff, lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya, who inaugurated the project, commended General Adetayo for utilizing, effectively, the special Intervention Fund of the Civil Military Cooperation Project put in place for senior military officers across the Nation.
The block of five classroom has the Principal’s office and a staff room as well as modern toilet facilities.
Lieutenant General Yahaya, represented by Major General Godwin Umelo, congratulated the beneficiaries of the project saying that it was conceived and executed by Major General Adetayo.
He explained that the Nigerian Army had in recent times, embarked on projects in several communities with a view to providing succour in the areas of need and to strengthen the between the Force and the Civil Populace.
The executor of the project major General Adetayo, who highlighted the importance of Education, explained that the project was part of efforts aimed at enhancing the welfare of teachers and students
He urged the Management and students of the school to take ownership of the facility and ensure regular maintenance.
The permanent secretary, Teaching Service Commission, Mr, Mike Omolayo, said the project was in tandem with the vision of the state governor to create a conducive environment for learning and study in the state.
The Alawe of Ilawe Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Ajibade Alabi, who thanked the donor for giving back to the community, encouraged other well to do Ilawe indigenes to emulate the gesture.
The Ekiti South West local government chairman, Mr Richard Apolola, the Principal of the school, Mr. Bamisile Adeniji and students lauded General Adetayo for the project.
Other speakers at the event commended the General for considering the school, which had almost become a shadow of itself, for the project.
The representative of the Chief of Army Staff later commissioned the project and inspection followed.
The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr Adeoye Aribasoye, members of the Assembly and other dignitaries were present at the occasion, which was spiced up with cultural dances.
