As the current economic situation in Nigeria continued to bite hard on the citizens, a Philanthropist, Mr. Samuel Ajiboye on Friday empowered no fewer than 500 persons in Otun -Ekiti, Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti state.
The gesture saw Mr Ajiboye doling out cash gifts of hundred thousand naira per person and some food palliatives worth millions of naira.
The US based philanthropist, in a three in one event celebrated the birthday of his mother, madam Agnes Ajiboye, commissioned event center and an orphanage home in the area to immortalise his late father Pa Michael Babatunde Ajiboye who died in 2002.
Ajiboye in a chat with newsmen explained that the idea was borne out of his desires to put smiles on the faces of the people and to give back to the society.
At the launch of the event center & the orphanage home, the philanthropist noted that the initiative was intended to provide immediate relief and support to vulnerable constituents amid the current harsh economic realities in the country.
According to him, the hardship faced by families and individuals across Nigeria, and particularly within his locality calls for decisive and compassionate action.
He said the gesture was just the beginning, as he would continue to expand and enhance the initiative, adapting to the evolving needs of the people of the community.
The Philanthropist distanced the gesture from every political inclination, adding that he has no flare for politics but was borne out of his passion to cater for, and help the people to cushion the effect of the current economic hardship ravaging the nation.
His elder brother, Olawumi Ajiboye added that their late father’s legacy was to help people when the need arises and whenever they have the capacity to do such.
The duo added that the orphanage home would be devoted to the care of orphans and children who for various reasons cannot be cared for by their biological families.
One of the beneficiaries Mrs. Olayemi Feyisayo and the chairman of the occasion, Ade Abolarin lauded the initiative, describing it as first of it’s kind in Moba Local Government area of Ekiti State.
The urged the initiators to keep the flag flying.
A total of 500 people were empowered through a cash gift of hundred thousand naira each, while food items and other groceries were provided.
The occasion had in attendance, the Onira of Ira-Ekiti Oba Adeniyi Adeyinka who commended the initiators of the programme and prayed for its sustainability.
The Oore of Otun-Ekiti, Oba Adekunle Adeagbo was represented by the Obadofin, and other dignitaries from the state and beyond were also present.
