The Lawmaker representing Ado Constituency one at the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Ayodeji Adegbite, has encouraged house owners in the state embrace tree planting to protect their houses from being affected by rainstorm.
The lawmaker gave the charge while on an the spot assessment to the areas ravaged by strom that accompanied Wednesday’s rainfall in Wards 1 and 3 at the Odo Ado area of the State Capital.
The roofs of many houses were blown off by the storm in ward one, while a substantial number of houses in ward three also suffered severe damage.
Hon. Adegbite, who was accompanied by some officials of State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, said that the visit was to assess the level of damage and to sympathize with the victims.
The lawmaker, who said that the disaster was regrettable, assured the victims of government’s intervention.
Hon. Adegbite encouraged the people of the State to cultivate the habit of tree planting and to desist from indiscriminate refuse disposal.
The Board Chairman of SEMA, Alhaji Ademola Bello and the General Manager of the Agency, Mr Oludare Ashaolu, said proper evaluation would be done to ascertain the impact of the disaster and to determine the number of victims to be taken care of.
They commended the lawmaker for showing interest in the well-being of his constituents.
