Ise/Orun LG bans sales of wet Cocoa

The Ise/Orun Local Government has banned the sales of wet Cocoa on farm roads in the council area

The Chairman of the council, Mr Samson Ayodele who gave the order during a stakeholders meeting in Ise Ekiti this was part of the Amended by law of the council which will come to force from next month.

Mr Ayodele who briefed the stakeholders on the recent amendment to the bylaw as legislated by the councilors, said that cocoa merchants should henceforth take their products to stores for sale rather than trading them on farm roads.

He explained that the move aims to curbing killings in farms and the theft of the products, which are rampant during the cocoa season.

“We are amended this by-law which will come to force by next month April, so as to curb killings in our farms and reduce theft to the bearest minimum in the community, over time we have observed that, it was during this sale of wet Cocoa that many evils were perpetrated, so henceforth no more sales of wet Cocoa on our farm roads”…he added

The Council Boss informed the gathering of plans by the council to boost the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR to cater for the pressing needs of the people which necessitated the increment in the taxes payable by members of the public.

He explained that the by-law was last reviewed four years ago, and in light of the current economic situation, an upward adjustment was necessary.

“the council is working assiduously to ensure life is better for our people, starting from next week, we will start to put all these necessary measures in place, just to ensure our Local Government grow”.

The Chairman who emphasized that school-aged children are prohibited from hawking during school hours, also revealed plans by the council to revoke council-owned land from trespassers.

He said that his administration intends to tackle insecurity by constructing a police post in the Ogbese area of the council, as well as building a garage for Okada riders.

Earlier, the Majority Leader of the council’s legislative house, Mr. Ayodele Ogunjemilua, explained that the purpose of the gathering was to inform stakeholders on the amendments made to the by-law.

The Olowuro of Orun-Ekiti, Oba Zachahus Adewumi, in his remarks, called for greater support for the council, emphasizing that prompt and consistent payment of taxes would ensure the council’s development.

Members of the community commended the chairman for his thoughtfulness and dedication to the council’s progress.

The Chairman also empowered hundreds of people within the council with cash donations.
