The Ekiti State House of Assembly Minority leader, Mr Oladele Ogunsakin has called for a thorough review of the existing security measures and a proactive reassessment of their effectiveness.
In a statement personally signed by Mr Ogunsakin, the lawmaker wondered why the spate of kidnapping in recent months soar in the state known to be relevantly peaceful.
According to him, it is essential that the resources provided by the state government are utilized to combat criminal activities and not for routine at road blocks.
His words..
“While acknowledging the efforts made by the governor, who provided the police with patrol vehicles, armored trucks, several other equipment and logistic support last year. It is imperative to question whether these resources are being optimally utilized. The safety of our citizens should be paramount, and we must ensure that these measures translate into genuine efforts to serve and protect.
The alarming incidents including the Ikere robbery saga, the tragic murders of two kings and the abduction of innocent primary school children, underscore the urgent need for a comprehensive and effective security strategy. Our people should not have to live in constant fear of the unknown, and their lives should not be negatively impacted by the persistence of criminals.
As your representative, I call for a thorough review of existing security measures and a proactive reassessment of their effectiveness. It is essential that the resources provided are utilized to combat criminal activities and not for routines at roadblocks.”
He expressed condolences to the communities that have recently witnessed the tragic loss of their traditional rulers and prayed for the repose of their souls.

It is disheartening to witness Ekiti, once renowned for its peace and unity, now grappling with the menace of kidnapping and rampant criminal activities. The recent incident involving school children, students, farmers, and even respected individuals such as the kings have left our communities in fear and despair.”
Mr Ogunsakin who called for calmness appealed for unity in demanding swift and decisive action to restore peace and security to the state.
