Man regains freedom, after two years behind bar

An Ekiti State High Court, sitting in Ado Ekiti, has discharged and acquitted one Sanni Mohammed, accused of being a member of Aye confraternity.

Delivering his judgment, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye said the prosecutor was unable to convince the court on the charges pressed against the suspect.

According to the charge, Mohammed Sanni was on 16th day of May, 2019, at Ikere Ekiti, found to be a member of the Aye confraternity, contrary to section 4(1) of the Secret Cult Law of Ekiti State.

To proof his case, the prosecutor, Ibironke Odetola, called two witnesses and tendered only the defendant’s statement as exhibit.

The defendant was first arraigned before the court on 24th February, 2020.

Addressing the court after the verdict, the defence counsel, Kayode Oyeyemi, eulogized Justice Ogunmoye for delivering what he tagged a resounding judgment.
