Oyebanji welcomes EKSU’s Rating as Nigeria’s Best State Vaersity

…Congratulates Council, Management on the Enviable Feat

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has expressed his delight with the emergence of Ekiti State University (EKSU) as the leading State University in Nigeria.

EKSU also secured the 12th position out of 270 universities in Nigeria (both public and private) according to a comprehensive ranking list published by Times Higher Education rating for 2025.

Governor Oyebanji, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, congratulated the university’s Chancellor, Dr Tunji Olowolafe, for his support and commitment towards the development of the University. He also congratulated the Governing Council of the University led by Prof Akin Oyebode and the management led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Joseph Babatola Ayodele on the achievement, which he said resulted from the hard work of the staff and students.

The Governor noted that EKSU’s leading position among fellow state-owned universities in the country is a positive advertisement of the state’s education sector, and a justification for his administration’s huge investment in education and human capital development.

The Governor said he is happy that EKSU, with the latest feat, is justifying government’s huge investment in education, especially the significant increment in Government’s subvention to the University from N261 million to N410 million monthly, improved staff welfare package and infrastructure development, including the reconstruction of Ado – Iworoko – Ifaki road, among others.

Governor Oyebanji, who is EKSU’s first alumnus to serve as Visitor to the university, promised to continue to ensure adequate government support for the university in areas of teaching and research, as well as infrastructure upgrade.

The Governor enjoined the management of the university not to rest on its oars, but work harder not only to sustain the momentum as the best state university but also to emerge as the overall best university in Nigeria, a feat he said is achievable with more commitment.

It is recalled that Governor Oyebanji, in a bid to solve the power supply issue in EKSU, had, last year, directed that the university be connected to the state’s Independent Power Plant (IPP).
