Worried by the lingering strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities and its adverse effects on the Nation’s Educational System, the Bishop Ekiti Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Felix Ajakaye, has charged the Union to adopt another strategy in their agitation and negotiation with the Government.
Ajakaye, who gave the advice at a forum, in Okemesi Ekiti, said that Education was gradually going into extinction with the incessant strikes and the inappropriate responses from the appropriate authorities to address it.
Recounting his series of encounters with some graduates, particularly some holders of degree certificates and could not defend such, the Bishop said it was high time things were done to salvage the poor standard of Education.
He advised ASUU to adopt another means in agitating for their plights, while also encouraging them to look inward and pourge the Union of some unqualified lecturers contributing to the falling standard of Education.
” I want to tell ASSU, any person capable of making you angry has become your master, and arguing with a person who has renounced reasoning is like administering drug to the dead., These are my proverbs for you, which I believe you will dissect in this ongoing face off with government.”
Speaking on other issues, the Catholic Bishop charged Nigerian leaders to change their priorities.
He expressed reservation on government’s reaction to the killings and other atrocities in the country, saying for the country to move forward, “we must get our priorities right”
The Bishop advised public office holders to surround themselves with smart people who could argue with them, saying “when you are faced with superior argument, you surrender”.
