The Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal has retriated the commitment of the Nigeria Governors Forum to the autonomy of the judiciary and legislature to deepen democratic process in the country.
Alhaji Tambuwal who stated this at the Attorney General’s colloquium held in honour of the outgoing Chief Judge, Justice Ayodeji Daramola at the Adetiloye Hall in Ado Ekiti, maintained that the judiciary and legislative arms play critical role in promoting checks and balances among the arms of governance.
He revealed that Governors had agreed to put up an implementation structure that would enable the Judiciary have power to manage its capital and recurrent expenditures in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution.
In his remarks, Governor Kayode Fayemi assured the gathering that the 36 States Governors would adhere strictly to the agreement signed for the implementation of the autonomy.
He said that Governors would continue to hold the judiciary in high esteem considering its role towards entrenching good governance.
The Governor said that the State recorded significant achievements in the judiciary sector under the watch of Justice Ayodeji Daramola as the Chief Judge of the State.
