The Authorities of the Ado Local Government and the Benin Electricity Distribution Company have explained the rationale behind the power outage in Ado Ekiti and its environs for the past 6 days.
Featuring on EKTV News and Current Affairs Programme, Daybreak Nigeria, the Chairman, Ado Local Government, Mrs Motunde Fajuyi and the BEDC’s PRO, Mr Kayode Brown-Ilori explained different positions on the face-off between the two bodies over the demanded payment of levies.
Mrs Fajuyi in her comments stressed that since the inception of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company in Ado Ekiti, the Organization has not paid operational permit to the coffers of the Local Government which has accumulated to over ten million naira.
The Local Government Boss said that the company was notified before the action to seal off their office was taken.
Mrs Fajuyi noted that with the intervention of the State Government, Traditional Institutions and Other Stakeholders, the Local Government had resolved to re-open the BEDC’s office temporarily for two weeks.
Commenting, the Public Relation Officer, BEDC, Mr Kayode Brown-Ilori said that the company was not owing the Ado Local Government emphasizing that the operational permit requested by the council was illegal as it was not paid in other three States that the company operates.
Mr Brown-Ilori, however, denied the rumour that the face-off with the council was the reason for the total blackout in the State Capital.
He added that electricity would be restored to the State Capital moment they have access to their materials to work on their faulty power line.
It would be recall that Ado Ekiti, the State Capital had been in total blackout for over six days.
