Irate youths protest killing of two farmers by unknown gunmen in Ekiti

It was a bloody Friday at Isaba-Ekiti in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, as one Mr Oluwatoyin Akeju, a rice farmer and a Labourer were allegedly killed by unknown gunmen on Akeju’s farm land.

BSES gathered that Akeju and the Labourer had gone to clear the farm land for rice plantation when the ugly incident occured.

The news which filtered to the town on Saturday led to disruption of commercial activities as some angry youths barricaded the major roads.

According to the Wife of the victim, Mrs Oluwatoyin Akeju, her late husband did not return home from farm as usual which prompted her to raise the alarm and call on the town local hunters.

The Oluode of Isaba-Ekiti, Chief Sunday Odabira said that he swung into action immediately when he was informed of the missing of Mr Akeju popularly known as “Jisoro”.

He stressed that the town’s local hunters were reinforced to the farmland at the late hours of Friday in search of the Akeju and the labourer, but only to find Akeju’s motorcycle and later their bodies with gunshot wounds in the early hours of Saturday.

He noted that he was privy to informations that the late Akeju and some alleged fulani herdsmen had confrontations on the farmland last week, which led to the farm being set ablazed.

Some of the residents of the community who described the incident as unfortunate called on government to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.

Meanwhile, the State Government delegation led by Leader of Government Business in the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr Gboyega Aribisogan had visited the families of the deceased to commiserate with them.

He assured them that Government would ensure that the perpetrators of the evil act did not go unpunished, promising that Government would render the necessary support for the families of the deceased.
