The need for Nigerians, particularly Ekiti people, to ensure the collection of their Permanent voter cards and participate in this year’s general Election formed the basis of admonition at the annual Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, week of prayer held at the Ewi’s palace in Ado Ekiti.

Religious and traditional leaders at the program, charged Nigerians to vote credible candidates that would turn around the fortunes of the land.

The prayer, which is an annual event, held at the Ewi’s palace, was to usher in the new year and pray for the peace and prosperity of the Capital City and the entire state.

The Ado Ekiti CAN Chairman, Rev Fr Joseph Abegunde, in his address, said that Nigerians should support their prayers by voting credible candidates in the elections.

He said that citizens could not continue to stand aloof and expect miracles to happen, urging Nigerians to be ready to actually participate in the elections.

Similarly, the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe, who congratulated Ado indigenes and Ekiti people for witnessing the new year, encouraged people of voting age to ensure that they participate in all the elections.

He also advised the Independent National Electoral Commission, to put in its best by conducting free, fair and credible elections that Nigerians would be proud of.

The officiating minister, Rev Canon Ben Filani, in his sermon, said that for Nigeria to surmount the challenges facing it, citizens must forsake sins and seek the face of God at all times.

The Programme also featured praise worship.

There were prayer sessions for Nigeria, Ekiti State, Ado Ekiti, and the Ewi.
