Stop Pressuring Politicians for money… Presidential Aide warns

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Mr Ibrahim Olanrewaju has called on Nigerians to desist from pressuring politicians for money to further engender good governance.

The Presidential Aide made the call while delivering a paper at the Quarterly Roundtable Discussion programme, organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, BSES Chapel, held at the corporation multipurpose hall Ilokun in Ado-Ekiti.

Mr Olarewaju who spoke on the topic Nigeria’s Democracy: Desirability of Cutting the Cost of Governance” said that to enhance good governance in the country all hands must be on deck.

He said that it became imperative to cut the cost of governance in view of the fact that some politicians siphoned public funds to appease their followers by what they considered as generosity.

The former National Assembly member noted that government should take the lead by reducing the cost of governance especially on matters that do not have direct impact on the lives of Nigerians

According to Mr Olarewaju the current challenges affecting the country would have been overcome if corruption in the path of politicians had been checkmated

He added that the prudent approach to the management of the Nation’s resources and a visionary approach to the economy would put the country on sustainable path

Speaking at event, the Chairman of NUJ, Ekiti Council, Mr Kayode Babaluyi promised the readiness of men of the pen profession to always be the watchdog in reshaping the nation

There were goodwill messages from the Commissioner for Information, Chief Taiwo Olatunbosun who was represented by a Director in the Ministry, the General Manager of BSES, Mr Olurotumi Popoola represented by the Director of News in the corporation, Mr Akinwale Olaoye among others

They landed the Guest Speaker for his thoughtful submission which they said would go along way in cutting the cost of governance in the country

Earlier, the Chairman BSES NUJ, Mr Kelechi David said that the topic was carefully chosen with a view to ensuring that Nigeria develop democratically

He applauded guests at the forum for gracing the event.
