By Bunmi Ibiteye

Media professionals have been advised to always carry out their job with utmost integrity and diligence so as to sustain the value of the profession.

This is the submission of experts at a media dialogue organized by NUJ, Ekiti State Council, to mark this year’s Press Week.

With the theme, “Maintain Good Journalism Amidst Economic and Security Challenges”, the participants, who included veterans, Heads of Media Stations, Proprietors and serving journalists, agreed that no situation should push professionals to the point of compromise due to their role in building a sustainable society.

In their remarks, the Chief Press Secretary to the Ekiti State Governor, Mr Yinka Oyebode, and the Special Adviser to Ekiti State Governor on Communications and Strategy, Mr. Akin Rotimi, expressed worry over the infiltration of journalism by quacks.

According to them, such development had given rise to sensationalism, armchair journalism and fake news.

Others who contributed, including the chairman of veterans, Prince Kayode Oni, Former NUJ Chairmen, Akogun Tai Oguntayo, Chief Laolu Omosilade, among others, called for regular training of journalists and that their welfare should be priorotised.
